How the four pillars turn a birth moment into a reading of structure, timing, and compatibility, and what each layer can help you notice.
A chart is a birth moment organised four ways
BaZi means eight characters. They come from four pillars for the year, month, day, and hour. Each pillar has a stem above a branch, giving eight marks in a complete chart. The point is not to collect eight labels. It is to see which qualities arrive together, which one represents the reader, and what kind of setting surrounds it.
The day stem is called the Day Master. It gives the reading a centre. The month places that centre in a season. The remaining stems, branches, and elements show what supports it, what asks something from it, and what it can express. This is why two people with the same year animal can have very different readings.
Why date, time, and place matter
The year begins at Start of Spring, not January 1. Months begin at calculated solar terms, not on the first. Aster also corrects a recorded clock time toward local solar time before using the hour. Near a boundary, those details can change a pillar rather than merely make the same answer more precise.

Compatibility compares two structures
Chinese compatibility is not one animal approving or rejecting another. A full comparison asks what each Day Master needs, what each chart already carries, which stems and branches support or press each other, and whether the two people are moving through chapters that ask for compatible kinds of change.
The relevance is practical. One person may naturally bring what the other has little of. A repeated branch may make a familiar pattern louder. A clash can describe movement or friction, but the rest of both charts tells you where that pressure has somewhere useful to go.
What to look for in your chart
Find your Day Master first. Then notice the month pillar, because it supplies the season around you. Read the year animal as one branch among four, not a verdict. If chapter dates are available, separate what belongs to your birth structure from what may be louder in the present decade.
